Lebanese food hits the spot

My husband and I just got back into town from an out of town wedding and decided it would be a good night to go out to eat.  Going out to eat can be pretty difficult when you’re gluten free.  I have an app on my phone called FindMeGlutenFree and that has been a lifesaver for eating out on the road or on the go.

Back to last night! We decided to wing it and hope for some gluten free options at a family owned Lebanese restaurant in Matthews called Kabab-Je Rotisserie & Grille.

Our server and the manager were very friendly and both were willing to discuss if they had gluten free options on their menu.  Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and ask a lot of questions, but if you’re super nice about it, it’s usually not a big deal!

Something we loved about their food is that they use very simple, basic ingredients; herbs, olive oil, S & P, garlic, etc.  They didn’t have any menu items that had hidden gluten (binders, sauces, etc.) so if it wasn’t breaded or a pastry, I was good to go!

I ordered the Lamb Shawarma (vegetarians, please don’t hate me!) which is roasted thin slices of marinated lamb served with tahini dip.  It also came with marinated veggies, basmati rice and an amazing whipped olive oil/garlic dipping sauce.  We also had a homemade rice pudding with pistachios made with rose water that was so unique and refreshing.

We will definitely be going back there again for a night out!

Here is a picture of my leftovers for lunch! (Love me some leftovers!)
